Introduction
The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) is a flagship scheme launched by the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Government of India. Its main goal is to provide Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) to women from poor households to replace traditional cooking fuels like firewood and cow dung with clean cooking fuel. These traditional fuels cause indoor pollution and serious health problems.
Key Objectives and Benefits
Promoting Women’s Health: Protecting women and children from indoor air pollution caused by conventional fuels. According to WHO, smoke from dirty fuels is as harmful as smoking 400 cigarettes in an hour.
Empowering Women: LPG connection is given in the name of women, giving them control over household resources and saving time spent in collecting wood.
Environmental Protection: Preventing deforestation and environmental damage by reducing excessive use of biomass.
Financial Assistance: Financial assistance of ₹1600 (14.2 kg cylinder) or ₹1150 (5 kg cylinder), which includes security deposit, regulator, hose and installation cost.
Additional Subsidies: First LPG refill and cooking stove free for new PMUY beneficiaries. Subsidy of ₹300 on 14.2 kg cylinder in FY 2025-26 (maximum 9 refills in a year).
Eligibility Criteria
The age of the applicant woman should be 18 years or more.
Should be from a poor family (SC/ST, PMAY, AAY, Forest Dwellers, MBC, Tea and Ex-Tea Garden Tribes, River Island residents etc.).
There should not be any LPG connection in the family already.

Process:
Visit the nearest LPG distributorship or apply on the official online portal of PMUY.
Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) will verify your documents.
Once approved, LPG connection will be issued.
