The recent death of Suresh Sain, an Assistant Administrative Officer in the Women and Child Development Department in Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, has left the local community in deep shock and sorrow. His tragic passing has once again exposed the dark reality of private moneylending, unbearable financial pressure, and the psychological toll it takes on victims.
According to his family, Suresh Sain was driven to take his own life due to persistent harassment by moneylenders. The incident has sparked outrage across the district, leading to protests and a collective call for justice.
A Dedicated Officer, a Hidden Struggle
Suresh Sain was a well-respected government employee known for his integrity and dedication to public service. But behind his professional success lay a personal struggle — a growing burden of private loans and unrelenting pressure from local lenders.
Despite his efforts to manage his debts, the constant mental harassment reportedly became unbearable. On a quiet Sunday morning, tragedy struck when Sain was found dead in the basement of Birbal Market, a commercial complex he had personally developed in Jhunjhunu city — a place that once symbolized his hard work and success.
The Heartbreaking Suicide Note
During their investigation, police discovered a four-page suicide note, which turned out to be a crucial piece of evidence.
In this note, Suresh Sain named several moneylenders who had allegedly tormented him over an extended period. He described the relentless mental stress he faced and expressed deep distress over losing control of his hard-earned assets.
He also made a heartfelt request — that all the shops, properties, and documents seized by the lenders be returned to his family. This final plea painted a devastating picture of how his financial troubles had consumed nearly every aspect of his life.
Family’s Demand for Justice
After the post-mortem examination, Suresh Sain’s family refused to take possession of his body, staging a dharna (protest) outside BD Hospital’s mortuary. Their demand was clear — the immediate arrest of the people responsible for his death.
The family named seven individuals, accusing them of driving Sain to suicide through mental torture. They also alleged that they had repeatedly informed the police about the harassment but received no action or protection.
After several hours of negotiation, officials assured the family of a fair and thorough investigation, promising that special police teams had already been deployed to track down the accused.
The Accused: Names from the Suicide Note
The suicide note listed the following seven individuals accused of harassment and abetment to suicide:
- Sudhir
- Surendra Kumar
- Tarachand
- Yunus
- Vijay Kumar
- Ramniwas Mehla
- Biju Agasar
Police have registered a case against all seven under relevant IPC sections. Reports suggest that the accused are currently on the run, and multiple police teams are conducting raids to locate and arrest them.
Debt Trap: How ₹45 Lakh Became ₹1.5 Crore
Suresh Sain’s death has exposed the dangerous cycle of unregulated debt. According to his family, he initially borrowed around ₹45 lakh, but one of the moneylenders — Sudhir Kataria — later claimed that the amount had inflated to nearly ₹1.5 crore due to mounting interest.
This dramatic increase demonstrates how illegal private lending practices can quickly trap individuals, turning a manageable loan into a crushing financial nightmare.
Birbal Market: A Dream Turned Into Distress
Jhunjhunu Debt Trap Suicide Case 2025 Birbal Market was more than just a property for Suresh Sain — it was his life’s work. Built in 2018, the market included about 60 shops and 12 plots, entirely developed under his supervision.
However, his family alleges that moneylenders took control of several shops and properties, often at throwaway prices — as low as ₹1.5–₹2 lakh — under the pretext of mortgage or pledge agreements.
These properties were supposedly to be repurchased later, but that opportunity never came. Effectively, the assets were seized, stripping Sain of his financial security and deepening his despair. His suicide note specifically requested that these properties be returned to his family, emphasizing how significant they were to him.
Ongoing Police Investigation
Following the family’s complaint, ASI Ratan Lal Meena from Kotwali Police Station confirmed that a formal case has been registered. A special task team has been created to investigate the case, identify all the accused, and bring them to justice.
Police officials have vowed to conduct a transparent investigation and ensure that those responsible face strict legal action. Raids are currently underway to locate the accused individuals, all of whom remain absconding.
