The purpose of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP)

Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) Scheme This scheme works at many levels and its main objectives are:
Preventing Gender-Biased Sex-Selective Elimination: Strict enforcement of laws like PCPNDT Act to prevent female foeticide and infanticide.
Ensuring Survival and Protection: Providing proper healthcare, security and protection to daughters after birth from discrimination.
Promoting Education and Participation: Increasing school enrollment and retention of daughters and giving them equal opportunity to participate in every sphere of life.
Changing Societal Mindsets: Awareness campaigns and community participation to change the patriarchal mindset deeply rooted in the society.

Not a Direct Cash Transfer: This is not a direct financial assistance scheme, but a national campaign that brings together several ministries – Ministry of Women & Child Development, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, and Ministry of Education.

Eligibility and how to apply

BBBP itself is not an individual application-based scheme, but the eligibility for Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY) under it is as follows:
Daughter should be below 10 years of age.
Indian citizenship.
Daughter’s birth certificate.
Identification card and address proof of parent or legal guardian.
How to open SSY account:
Visit the nearest post office or any participating bank.
Submit the required documents and open the account.
