MGNREGA Yojana 2025: 100 days guaranteed employment for rural families
MGNREGA Yojana 2025 Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) is a major labour law and social security measure of India, which guarantees the “Right to Work” to rural households. The Act came into force in 2005, with the aim of enhancing livelihood security in rural areas. It provides at least 100 days of guaranteed wage employment in a financial year to every rural household whose adult members are willing to do unskilled manual work.
Key provisions and features
MGNREGA Yojana 2025 Legal Guarantee: This scheme provides legal rights. If work is not provided within 15 days of application, then unemployment allowance is given.
Demand-Driven: This scheme is demand-driven, that is, work is given on the basis of demand of rural families, not on the basis of any quota.
Decentralized Planning: It is operated by Gram Panchayats. The use of contractors in the scheme is strictly prohibited.
Inclusive Approach: At least one-third of the beneficiaries should be women. SC and ST communities are given priority.
Work & Wages: Work is given within a distance of 5 kilometers. If the distance is more, then travel allowance is given. Men and women get equal wages, and payment is required to be made within 15 days.
